I need help on the written part of this project. A paragraph for questions 2, 3. and 4. Please see instructions and example of what is expected and required by the professor. you will identify an interpretive problem in one of the texts on our syllabus (one you have not written about yet), then offer a resolution to that problem—an answer developed through close reading of the text. Of course, you’ll do your best work if the interpretive problem genuinely intrigues you, so work with a text that you want to write about and re-read. Think about questions that naturally arise as you study it. The kinds of textual elements that you might investigate include the following:
1) A character (not necessarily the central figure)
2) An image or a cluster of related images.
3) A key word or phrase.
4) a recurring concept, theme, or situation.
5) An important section in a longer work—perhaps a passage that appears to be in tension with its context, or one that illuminates the surrounding narrative in an unexpected way.
6) A combination of some or all of the approaches given above.
Note that the task is not to identify the presence of an interesting character, recurring image, key word etc.; rather, your task is to define and resolve an interpretive problem associated with or revealed through one or more of these elements. Further, your task is not to summarize, but to make an argument—your argument should be something a reasonable person who’s read the text before could disagree with you about.
Your essay should include the following organizational elements:
Introduction: at the most basic level your introduction should present the reader with the two purposes of your analysis: your reading of the text and how you will proceed with that reading. Under the direction of these two basic principles, you will want to present the reader with an explicit, overt understanding of the “problem” the text presents. This may take a few sentences. After setting up the problem, you will then offer what you see as the solution. The articulation of the problem and solution will function as your reading of the text. The reader should have a clear sense of why the proposed solution is actually a solution to the problem.
Body paragraphs: Each body paragraph should work to support your overall argument. Body paragraphs should work together in sequence to advance and support your overall argument, which has been previewed in the introduction. Therefore, each body paragraph must relate logically to the paragraph immediately before and after it. Within each body paragraph there should be three different things: 1) a topic sentence which articulates the central claim of that paragraph (if your paragraph has more than one idea or claim, consider splitting it into multiple paragraphs) 2) support, i.e. textual evidence, lines/passages from the text 3) explication of how the textual evidence supports your topic sentence.
Conclusion: your conclusion should move beyond a mere summary of your previous points. You should try to find a way to re-articulate your main argument, restate its significance and move your analysis in another fruitfully related direction (without opening a new can of worms/without leaving your reader hanging).
A few additional considerations:
Do not share your paper with another student. If two or more papers show signs of collaboration or copying, both papers will receive a zero.
Do not plagiarize – any source or idea that did not originate with you (even from our assigned texts) needs a citation, especially: Direct quotes, paraphrases, and ideas generated from somewhere else. Putting other’s ideas in your own words without a citation is plagiarism. When in doubt, cite. If plagiarized material from another student or a website or any other source is found in your paper, you will receive a zero.
Direct quotes should not be more than three lines of text. Quotes should not constitute more than a quarter of a paragraph. It should be clear why you are quoting the material. That is, you should explain its significance, immediately interpret it, or otherwise incorporate the text directly in the point you are making.
Make use of me and our tutor and the writing center and proofread.
Include page numbers.
Refer to Syllabus for grading criteria. Remember, a piece of writing that zealously engages its subject while containing a handful of technical errors will fare better than a piece of technically perfect writing composed of superficial or lukewarm ideas. So more than anything else, dig deep, have fun with this paper, and take some risks!
